2010 Senior King & Queen
Mel & Dorothy Karns

Mel & Dorothy Karns Melvin and Dorothy (Tagsold) Karns were married on August 12, 1950. They have been blessed with four children: Pat, Sue, Lonnie and Nancy. Nine grandchildren followed: Cassie, Misty, Kirk, Andy, Hannah, Krystal, Renee, Bonnie and Neil. The line up of great-grandchildren has begun and is now up to three!

Born and raised on North River Road, Melvin has farmed the family farm his entire life. Melvin and Dorothy are active members of Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Melvin has played on the church softball team and can claim 55 years in the dartball league. He has served on church council, fairboard, elevator board, sugar beet board and the appeals board of Freedom Township. Above all else, Melvin is an avid Detroit Tigers and Mudhens baseball fan.

Melvin’s devoted wife, Dorothy, moved to Pemberville in 1950 when she married Mel. In addition to raising their family, Dorothy has a history of being employed at the Forks Restaurant, serving in the Child Conservation League and belonging to the Mid Morning Belles.

Together they have always enjoyed watching their family in sporting events and in local fairs. Presently they are the behind the scene crafters of Bethlehem Lutheran preschool.
